Understanding YHVH and His Ways
To know GOD is to understand Him. Scripture ties this to asking Him for Wisdom. This Wisdom of GOD is mid-blowing because “She” is astounding.
YHVH is GOD’s personal, Covenant Name revealed to Moses in Exodus 3:14–15, meaning “I AM” and affirming His self‑existent, eternal, and unchanging nature.
You may have read or heard that, “His ways are higher than human ways.” Many have not heard of His sovereignty, Wisdom, and purpose, and how they are revealed (seen) throughout Scripture and experienced in unmatched faithfulness through Covenant actions.
I mentioned earlier, “the Ways of YHVH” refers to His actions, principles, and just order as revealed in Scripture. Here are a few Passages where this notion appears. There are others listed in Psalm 25:8 (“The LORD is righteous in all His ways”) and Deuteronomy 32:4 (“The LORD is righteous; He has judged the world with justice”), and in Judges 3:16 (“He made known His acts unto Israel.”)
NOTE: GOD’s Ways are not random but are deeply rooted in His view of Covenant, mercy and justice.
“The beginning of intelligence is to acquire Wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding.” –Proverbs 4:7
Wisdom is the starting point of all true understanding (insight). If/when a person actively seeks and gains wisdom, they are beginning to recognize She is most important attribute in life.
NOTE: She is not a thing, Wisdom is a person.
NOTE: In the language of YHVH’s people in Canaan is Hebrew. Wisdom has a female pronoun. The portrayal of Wisdom as “she” underscores her value and desirability, as listed in Proverbs 3:15 states, “She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire compares with her.” Knowledge, etc., are male.
Wisdom of GOD should be valued above all else. Without the knowledge and understanding of Him, what are we doing? Where are we going?
Wisdom as a priority prayer, and our obedience to know GOD is woven with obtaining this help.
Understanding is a consequence of being given Wisdom. …for instance, when a person gains wealth, status, or possessions, he or she should also cultivate discernment, GOD-honoring and people facing insight. These allow us to have spiritual awareness.
Culturally, the Hebrew context of “ways” will usually show (point to) the path, Method, or Way GOD acts. This means, if we are His, we too will act in the same manner, as we walk along the same path, and in the same methods.
What we do now is find out how we can know the Ways of YHVH. The good thing is, Scripture teaches us about His Ways, and they CAN be known. Is the path simple? I think so. Here are some routes the Scriptures provide.
Studying His Word
Observing His works
Following His Commands, not ONLY the Ones a denomination or your preacher would say are worth it.
Praying to the LORD GOD for understanding. How? You and I are to ask Him to reveal His purposes and guidance for “us.”
You and I MUST see, know and trust that the “ways” of YHVH are the consistent, righteous, and loving actions that derive from Him. Knowing them is central to walking in His will.
I’ve placed the words for “Understanding” in Hebrew and Aramaic below. “Why?” These are the languages of the people of GOD (Abraham’s decedents). Hebrew is the language of Canaan. Aramaic is the tongue of the near east.
In Biblical Hebrew, the primary word for “understanding” is (binah), and in Aramaic it is kindred (biynûʾa). Both mean “understanding, discernment, insight.”
Hebrew Meaning: Intellectual discernment, moral insight, the ability to grasp the true nature of things, and to judge rightly. It is more than knowledge. It is the capacity to differentiate, weigh, and choose in light of truth.
Aramaic Meaning: In the Aramaic section of the Bible, Daniel 2:21 uses the Aramaic form in the same context as the Hebrew in other verses, showing the shared lexical root across languages. It is here where Scripture presents binah/biynûʾa as a GOD-given ability for interpreting Truth, discerning His will, and living in Covenant faithfulness.
Undoubtedly, it is tied to Wisdom, righteousness, and the ability to “grasp the deep and hidden things.” You will notice this in Daniel 2:22.
What is in a name? EVERYTHING! Our name and His Name reveal who and what we are!
He is THE Self-existent, Covenant‑keeping, Merciful, yet Just Ruler. His Ways reveal how He acts as we are experiencing Him in His roles of Creator. We witness His sovereignty, purpose and how he sees the people. In every way, He is fully engaged and seeks the good of His people.
This bears repeating: If we are to (try to) understand YHVH and His Ways, we NEED to study His Word, trust His Character (Name), and walk in obedience. As we do these things, we will begin to recognize that His Ways are higher, His Purposes are really good, and His Covenant Love is unchanging.
We don’t understand GOD when we speak wrongly of Him!
It is quite easy to see it right away, that when we utter His Scriptures that we don’t know Him. If we did, we would not lie to or about Him.
How do we do that? ...twisting His Words and not being one (unified or focused) on the Law of His Word. That Law is His Son, Yeshua (Jesus, the Messiah) – Savior of the world.
We don’t know, trust or understand Him. …in THIS, we can’t (are UNABLE) to obey Him. We DON’T understand Him enough to stop making all these denominations and lie to the people concerning Him.
If we understood He and His Ways, we would be trembling in reverential fear, because of who we are in the Light of Him.
