How the LORD Steadies US, When We Stumble, Lose Our Way and Get Off the Path He Set for Us

‍How does the LORD GOD steady us, when we walk off the Path (derek) He set for us?‍‍ ‍

In the mind of the people of the 12 + 2 Tribes of Jacob (a Hebrew mind), “being steadied by GOD” is not a vague religious comfort. It is a physical, relational, and promise-keeping experience. One of the sweet and enlightening things about the Hebrew language is, it uses all kinds of historically accurate culture-rich verbs and images that Greek culture can’t. ‍ ‍

The world of the Tribes in Canaan reveals what it means for GOD to steady a person—how He holds, braces, supports, and establishes them so they do not collapse under pressure. ‍ ‍

Their journey to the land for those 40 years is a great indicator of that as well.‍ ‍

Throughout the Bible, the LORD GOD is depicted as an Active Guide Who does not abandon those who wander or stumble but instead uses His strength to steady and restore them. He is Faithful!

Do we not all desire to have sure footing, even though it seems as if we are walking on rocks, uneven ground and shards of glass? ‍

I fully acknowledge that keeping the way clear and not tripping over the "stumbling blocks" can and has been a challenge that has kept ME focused.

How do we... How do I keep my eyes UP and still walk confidently? I was just this morning telling a brother how DIFFICULT that action of choice is <sad face>. ‍ ‍

We all know that answer. Sports. ‍ ‍

...just joking. It is the Father of My Savior Who supports my steps. He can and will keep you as well.‍‍ ‍

Consider how GOD becomes the Stabilizing Force that keeps a person from falling, wavering, or being shaken, when/if they choose to elect Him as their all-in-all. If He is desired by us, He acts as the Inner Strength and Firm Foundation of a believer’s life.

When everything around us feels uncertain or shaky, GOD becomes…‍

How GOD steadies us on the Path is multifaceted, but the Word emphasizes that while our stumbling is the reality of the humanity we meander through, ADONAI’s Grip prevents our failure from being a final fall. ...if we take Him, consume Him and walk with Him.

A rather comforting statement of hope is found in Psalm 37:23-24, which states "The LORD makes firm the steps of those who delight in Him. Though they stumble, they will not fall headlong because the LORD upholds them with His hand."

Us being "held together" by Him would also be thought of as Him being constantly Faithful to our wellbeing. Since He is steadfast and immoveable & unwavering, we too can be.

Below, I inserted some Hebraic words that gives some really good understanding how the LORD GOD keeps us steady as life’s roads shifts under the weight of the quakes and storms. ‍

When we TRULY understand that man and money are NOT our sources, we will learn (hopefully) to lean on the Lord, Jesus.‍

‍ ‍

  1. Sha‘an— to lean on, to rely on. When referring to GOD, it is positive, but when another entity is the noun (focus), it is VERY much negative. I found that interesting. It means, “GOD becomes the One you put your full weight on.”‍ ‍

  2. Kun— to establish, to make firm and to stabilize. This is the Biblical word used in establishing thrones, Covenants, ‍foundations and committed (firm) hearts.

  3. ’Amad— to stand, or to be caused to stand. When the LORD GOD “makes you stand,” the Scriptures inform us that He is: establishing our footing, giving us stability and preventing us from being moved.

‍When GOD steadies you with kun, He is anchoring your identity, stabilizing your emotions, securing your direction and making your life “unshakeable.” These can take shape as we lean on Him for security—in faith.

‍ ‍

NOTE: This is the word used when GOD “makes firm” the steps of a person (Ps 37:23). It means that “He is setting your feet where they cannot slip.”

‍ ‍

The word Samakh is a rather particular word. If you are trying to help someone to trust ADONAI and lean on His Strength, etc., this is the most direct word for being steadied.‍

  • Samakh is used in sacrifices when the worshiper leans on the animal

  • Samakh is used for GOD supporting the righteous (Ps 145:14)

  • Samakh is used for leaning your weight on something solid (picture the staff of the shepherd)

‍ ‍

NOTE: “GOD takes YOUR weight, so you don’t collapse.” Something I learned when looking at this…  This is NOT emotional reassurance; it is underlying support.

“As the mountains are around Jerusalem, the LORD surrounds His people both NOW and FOREVER MORE.”‍‍ ‍

SONG: As The Mountains

‍ ‍

The LORD as the “glue in Israel’s walls” is one of the most beautiful ways to describe how GOD holds a Covenant people together—structurally, relationally, spiritually, and morally.

In the Hebraic imagination, walls are never just architecture; they are symbols of identity, protection, belonging, and covenant order. When GOD is The Glue!

‍The walls are MORE than stone—they are a living structure bound by His Presence.

‍ ‍

NOTE: When Israel’s walls crumble, it is always because the Covenant bond has been neglected, not because the stones were weak.

‍ ‍

The LORD is the Binding Agent that keeps Israel’s identity, unity, and protection intact. Without Him, the stones fall apart; with Him, the walls become a fortress, a home, and a testimony.

Since His Character and Name are "firmly fixed," we are compelled to consider our commitment to Him. ...which means our faith must be placed in question, challenged, scrubbed and our commitment of faith should undergo a consistent examination.

When we realize our "foot (feet) is (are) slipping," our LORD's persistent and consistent pursuit towards us is still steadfast in loving support of our growth and victory!

Cry out to Him! –Psalm 94:18‍ ‍
