Loving and Learning

In marriage, there is a huge struggle with self-perceived righteousness.

There is a great amount of complexity in truly understanding and living according to GOD 's Standards for how to love your mate. As an individual grows in age and spiritual knowledge, simplicity in judgment does not come easily. GOD 's Word is precise and unchanging, and that true understanding comes only from His Spirit, through continual study (of your spouse) and humility in how you serve them.

Why do we work to ignore these Biblical Principles of how to treat our companion? The Word applies to how we should love and serve our spouse. In some ways, there is an even tougher task to manage one’s own self, so the other person will get the best and clearest love and care possible.

You are part of the other. No more than you can suddenly change your approach or vows towards your mate, are you free to play around with GOD’s lifestyle for living in a committed relationship.

Human beings often "tinker" with GOD's Word, shaping it to fit personal preferences or biases. This tendency can lead to self-deception—believing oneself to be always fair, godly, and moral, while falling short of His Criterions. Pointing a finger at your husband or wife is a bad decision, especially when what you have been bringing to the table is inedible (disgusting).

Marital inconsistency is in direct contrast with GOD's faithfulness:

Unlike us, when He starts something, He finishes it. We can trust Him at His Word and Work. His Ways have been preserved since the dawning of marked time. Let’s try with more vigor, effort and intentionality to bring in more of His Expectations into our marriages and less of the lackluster efforts we call good.

A struggling marriage always highlights the ongoing need for humility, self-examination, and reliance on GOD's Spirit rather than one's own sense of righteousness.

The struggle is not just with the other person, but within oneself—to avoid pride, self-righteousness, and the illusion of precise decision-making.

Growth never ends does it?"
